DIY Cupcake Birthday Card with a FREE Cupcake SVG File

With this Free Cupcake SVG file download, wishing a special someone happy birthday is easy peasy. Use this diy cupcake card step-by-step tutorial with the Free Cupcake SVG to make a custom card they’ll treasure!

It’s so much fun to give someone a card you’ve made yourself! I think it means even more to receive a card when you know someone made the extra effort to create a handmade card especially for you. The best part is that giving someone a card you made especially for them brings happiness to you both!

I’m super excited to help you make this really cute cupcake birthday card so you can share your love with a family member or friend!

I’ve been kind of obsessed with cupcakes lately. Not the kind you eat, although who can resist a moist, decadent cupcake with fluffy icing and some sprinkles. Mmmmm!

Since the cupcakes I’ve been focusing on aren’t the edible kind, you might be wondering what kind of cupcakes I’ve been so infatuated with. Well, let me tell you, I’ve been designing free cupcake svg files for you!

Let's make this super cute cupcake card! To make it easy for you to make this project I've created some affiliate links to products you could buy. If you purchase something after clicking one of the links I may earn a small commission, but it won't cost you even a penny more. You can read my full disclosure here. You can also buy your supplies anywhere that works for you. If you're like me, you probably already have so many you can just pull them out of your closet.

I used a Cricut Maker to cut out the parts for this card. You could also use a pair of scissors and a craft knife to cut it out. You'd just print the cupcake svg and cut along the lines.

Equipment

  • Cricut Maker / Cricut Explore / Cricut Joy or another brand of cutting machine
  • Light Grip Cutting Mat for the Cricut Maker or Explore / Cricut Joy Light Grip Cutting Mat
  • Spatula or Other Removal Tool - I like the Basic Tool Set
  • Fine Point Blade & Housing - for the Maker & Explore / for the Cricut Joy
  • Pair of Scissors - I love these Fiskars scissors for intricate cuts
  • Utility Knife - Cricut TrueControl Knife Kit
  • Glue - Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue
  • Fineline Precision Tip Applicator Bottle with 20 Gauge Fine Tip (fill with glue)

Materials

  • Free Cupcake SVG File
  • 7 pieces Cardstock Multiple Colors
  • Glitter
  • 4 inches of Ribbon 1/4 inch wide

Instructions

Step 1 - Download and Unzip the Free SVG Cupcake File

  • First you'll need to download the Free Cupcake SVG from my Free Resource Library
  • Unzip the Free Cupcake SVG file
    • locate the file on your hard drive
    • on a pc right click on the .zip file and select unzip or on a Mac double click the .zip file

Step 2 - Upload the Free Cupcake SVG File into Cricut Design Space

  • Open Cricut Design Space
  • Click on the New Project button near the top right corner of Cricut Design Space
  • Click on the Upload button on the bottom of the tool bar on the left of Cricut Design Space
  • Drag and Drop the file onto Cricut Design Space or click on the Browse button
    • If you choose Browse select the folder you saved and unzipped the free svg cupcake file into
    • Select the free svg cupcake file
    • Click on the Open button
  • On the right side of Cricut Design Space in the Image Name box add a descriptive name for the Cute Cupcake svg file
  • Below the Image Name box click in the Tags (Optional) box and type in tags to help you later when you search for the cupcake
    • Tags are words that will remind you what the file is
    • They're the words you'd type in the search box when searching for the item
    • A tag doesn't have to be an individual word, it can be a phrase
    • Tags should be separated by commas like the words below
    • IE: cupcake, layered cupcake, cupcake with swirl cutouts
  • Click on the Upload button

Step 3 - Prepare The File in Cricut Design Space

  • Size the cupcake to fit your card size
    • I made a card that was half of a letter sized sheet of paper so my card was 5.5 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide before folding it in half. I scored and folded my card at 4.25 inches. I like this size because I can make 2 cards for every letter sized sheet of cardstock. I buy letter size white cardstock in bulk. I also found some small envelopes that are just bigger than my small card size.

Step 4 - Make The Cupcake in Cricut Design Space

  • Click on the Make It button near the top right corner of Cricut Design Space

I feel so much joy when I make things for others! I hope you have lots of fun creating your own custom cupcake card! I'd love to see what you make! So please tag #CraftingSparkle when you share pictures of your handmade cupcake card on social media. Happy Crafting!
